The strangers made their way from the sandbar through the tide pool towards the short, when the last one left entered the water they drew pointed metal sticks as one.

All the small boats had been lowered to the ocean and began making their way towards the shore, and the warriors that waited for them. Their progress through the breaking waves was slow enough that people began to relax. Death certainly would not take his time, not with the sun rising in the sky. The warriors changes their tempo as the strangers began to drag their boats onto the sandbars. With wide legs the warriors slowly marched towards the men standing in a square in the shallows. The warriors moved in a semi-circle three deep, their bare feet leaving long trails in the sand, spears keeping time with their feet.

Now as the six ships were lowering smaller ships full of men that gleamed bight in the sunlight, Garlus, a child, believed he understood. "Trillkrin sails with those men." His grandfather said in a hoarse whisper. "He sets their bodies alight like that so we know he's here. He calls to us and taunts us, announcing his arrival at dawn."

His grandfather had his arm wrapped around his shoulder and he could feel the elderly man's hands tapping in time with the warrior's spears. They had been watching the ships approach slowly over the last cycle of suns. At first only one ship had been spotted out in the deep waters. Then another arrived during the night, the next day four more arrived. They made no movement towards the shallows and his people stayed within the jungle waiting and watching.

They prayed to Xolantis, goddess of the sea and fertility, and to Trillkrin bringer of death, for protection and the strength to defeat the newcomers, should the need arise. Plat-Paulu petitioned the council to send a raiding party out to the ships during the night. He was supported, in due course, by the Paulu and the Clalu clans. Marn-Walu petitioned for diplomacy and gained the support of the Walu, Mialu, and the Fenalu.

Both petitions were largely meaningless unless Rain-Drilu, Chief and Holy Xolan to all clans had agreed, but he did not. His hold on the largest of the clans was absolute, and so when, in his fear and weakness he petitioned for the clans to stay in the jungle and observe the Drilu, Yanilu, Kapilu, Slalu, and Titalu all fell behind him.

His grandfather had sworn that day when he had arrived back at his hut.

They stood on the sand in the dawn and watch the ships approach. Arrayed in a line, their strongest warriors rhythmically beat their spears against their woven grass shields. He stood with the women and the elderly, just back inside the jungle's green canopy and watched the sun rise over the ships, warriors, and ocean.

Didn't Finish - Starting Again

Well I did not finish my 2011 book, but 2012 is a new year so I'm going to try again and see what happens. Again I've got no plot and not idea what will happen.
